Merry X-mas

Yeah, it's been a while. But I would just like to wish all of you guys a merry xmas and a happy new year.

I understand many of you seniors in high school are still applying to colleges and deadlines are heading fast.

The Illinois institute of technology DOES have a deadline for freshman applications, and it is January 15, i think.

I believe for transfer students, the deadline was november 30th, but I'm not too sure. Please check the website iit.edu/apply for more details. And if you guys really need to hear about decisions fast, IIT normally gets to a decision on your application in about two weeks, which is a great thing, especially if you're applying to a bunch of schools.

I do know that the admissions office is open during our winter break, so if you are still unsure or haven't visited the school yet, I highly suggest you do so. The school looks great in snow. I'm not sure exactly what it looks like now, because i'm in california, but admission counselors are still working hard and if you have any questions, feel free to drop by or call in.

When I give a tour, I usually tell all of the prospective students and their parents what my college app experience was like.

By this time, I had given all of my 24 recommendations to my teachers and counselor. I'm pretty sure I finished all of my applications. IIT has a rolling admission process, but with any school (rolling or not), you should definitely submit your app as soon as possible.

Actually, i think january 15 is the deadline for the camras scholarships. which is a pretty sweet deal which covers up to full tuition and room/board. Even, if you don't think you have a chance for getting a scholarship or getting into IIT, you should still apply, because you never know what colleges are looking for.

But I can tell you what IIT is looking for in an applicant. We're looking for good, well rounded people. Not everyone can have a 4.0 gpa, a 36 act and participate in extra curriculars up the wazoo. I remember, when I was in high school, I didn't do so great. But I tried to balance my life around. the world goes depends on people who have many different strengths and weaknesses.

I was talking to this one student who is currently attending a community college in the middle of california, and was interested in either architecture or engineering, so i told him about IIT. He said he didn't really have the grades for a school like that. Later on, he informed me that he had a 3.10 gpa, but he participated in many activities and played on a sports team. He was also working on an art portfolio, and sent me a couple of pictures and they were pretty cool. He was a smart kid, and very articulate, but he just didn't have the confidence in him.

Just because you don't think you got everything it takes to be successful at a school like iit, doesn't mean you shouldn't apply. you have to make opportunities, not just wait for them.

Finals are finally over.

I had my genetics exam last wednesday. It was ok. Just like the other tests prior. Obviously I didn't get enough time to study for this test as previous tests, but that's finals week for ya.

Finals week, if you actually think if it, is quite a sadistic thing. Your professors all give you just ONE test, all in a one week period, for tests ranging from around 30-50% (or even more).

My biochemistry final was worth 32% of the grade, Physics 30%, Genetics 30%, Social and Political Thought 40%, Psychology 45%. geeze. Thank goodness I only had four finals. If I had one more, it would have probably ruined my finals week, and prob all my tests and finally, all of my grades.


But its ok, I'm at home now in california and the weather is warm. Oh man, in chicago it is freezing and there's snow all over the place. But here, oh man, here. oh man oh man oh man! i can walk outside in a t-shirt and it feels good. I was in the car and it got too cold with the air conditioning and i rolled down the window and it was hot!

if i had theme music in the background of this blog, it would be that one song, "feelin' hot hot hot!" lol

I will surely keep you posted on my adventures in california. obviously it won't be as interesting as when i talk about the stuff going down at IIT, but it'll be catchy enough.

It's one of those tests...

today was the beginning of the end.

yes, it was. today was the beginning of finals week and students are getting crazy. The library just turned on its 24 hour policy where it is open from 8:30 am on saturday, and it doesn't close until friday at 5:00 pm. Its a great thing if you have to stay up all night. The library also has these full body bean bags that you can use to take a nap or even just fall asleep until the next more. i think the only real problem with the library is that there aren't enough electrical outlets available so that students can plug in their laptops.

I already had 2 finals. The first final was for physics at 5:00 pm and then at 7:30 pm i had my sociology final. Finals have 2 hours allocated for them. My physics final was, well you know, it's one of those tests where you either know it or you don't, and i didn't. but its ok, its all over now. I was cramming for those 30 min in between finals but was surprised to find that the sociology test wasn't all that bad. On wednesday i have my genetics final and on thursday i have my biochemistry final. so im probably gonna be up all night.

Right now, i'm sucking on some caffeine and studying for genetics. it won't be so bad. it's worth 25 percent of the grade but i've been doing ok in that class.

If you have three or more finals on the same day, you can get one of them moved so the administration is doing a good thing by letting a bunch of students relax about that. too bad it doesn't apply to two finals.

Good thing i don't have any homework or projects due anymore, some people have big projects due on friday and are working furiously at that. I will be going home next tuesday. I have to clean my room and do about 5 loads of laundry.

wow its already now.

sorry i haven't been posting. i've been really busy the few weeks.

but to give you guys a quick recap, i went home for thanksgiving.

came back and had some more tests.

had some more tests in the following week.

and now i have to start prepping for finals.

so many tests this past month. it's just crazy ridiculous.

i did manage to figure out how to upload my website on the iit server, so i'll put some sweet stuff up there as well.

in the next few days i'll post what i did, hopefully, i didn't lose you all. i did pretty well on my 3rd physics test and 2nd biochemistry test. but i still have to really study for my finals. there are seriously going to be a bummer. i think i'm borderline with my grades in all of my classes, so i have to really study hard. it just sucks when you have all your finals in one week. And I also got done with my Industrial organization psychology course. this final was earlier this afternoon. i'm pretty sure i did well on it. I did study for a few days (which is more than enough for that class). but with biochem/phys/genetics it won't be so easy. but it's ok. break is coming soon and i won't have to worry about school for a whole month.

I do plan on going back home for xmas, so i'll be posting a lot of stuff about that. i plan on going to washington (the state) and probably las vegas. but i'll be sure to keep you guys posted.
